SPORTS, SWIM & PLAY
The Y is the starting point for children to learn about becoming active, staying active, and developing healthy habits that they’ll carry with them for the rest of their lives. The benefits of a healthy lifestyle are far greater than just physical. Sports, Swim and Play programs aim to better mental health as well. Whether it’s gaining the confidence that comes from learning to swim or building the positive relationships that lead to good sportsmanship and teamwork, participating in sports at the Y is about building the whole child, from the inside out.
Did you know that basketball and volleyball were invented by early YMCA leaders?
Our sports programs develop more than skills—they develop character. We offer a variety of programs for youth and adults, including recreation and league sports. Coaches—often volunteers, including many parents—emphasize teamwork, cooperation, and good values.
The YMCA has been America’s leading swim instructor for more than 100 years. But our swim lesson programs extend beyond instruction. We also provide recreational, competitive and specialty swim programs for all ages and abilities, including parent-child classes, water exercise and therapy, water safety and rescue, and water sports. Programs and classes vary by location. For swim program details, explore the website of the YMCA nearest you.
