The YMCA works collaboratively with many organizations to fulfill our mission of building strong kids, strong families and strong communities. Here are just a few of our partnerships.
Blue Cross Blue Shield
The Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan Foundation is dedicated to improving the health of Michigan residents through the support of research and innovative programs. Blue Cross Blue Shield believes in the work of the Y and supports Y-Fitness for Teens and the Active Older Adult programs.
Y-Fitness offers focused, coordinated programming to instill in teens the lifelong habits of fitness and good nutrition. The Active Older Adult program provides low cost fitness programming to help older adults stay healthy, active and socially engaged.
H.O.P.E. Scholars
The YMCA supports the HOPE Scholars program with a wide range of incentives to keep young students focused, motivated and successful in school.
Bank of America
Bank of America supports one the YMCA’s core programs, Strengthening Families. The Y provides family fitness programs, day camps, events, and a network of community programs designed to support working parents and keep family bonds strong.
Jackson National Life
Jackson directs the majority of its funding to nonprofit charitable organizations that benefit children or the elderly in those communities in which Jackson operates. Jackson National Life supports the YMCA of Lansing’s Y-Fitness Program for teens and the Active Older Adult programs. Y-Fitness offers focused, coordinated programming to instill in teens the lifelong habits of fitness and good nutrition. The Active Older Adult program provides low cost fitness programming to help older adults stay healthy, active and socially engaged.
Turning Point Program
The Mid-Michigan Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure® has awarded a grant to the YMCA of Metropolitan Lansing for supporting the post-diagnosis needs of local breast cancer survivors.
At the YMCA, the grant from Komen for the Cure will support the Turning Point Program, an initiative to help breast cancer survivors to increase physical functioning, improve general health, decrease fatigue, increase flexibility, improve social functioning, and balance the body. The program will involve a series of fitness, and yoga programs at the Jackson YMCA, Shiawassee YMCA and the Lansing YMCA's three branch locations — Oak Park, Parkwood, and Westside.
If you have questions about the program, or would like to register, please contact Joy Berwald at
517-827-9677 or Amanda LaVoie at 517-827-9624. Visit the Lansing YMCA Turning Point on Facebook.
YMCA Activate America®
YMCA Activate America® is the YMCA's approach to directly address our growing health crisis in communities across the nation. Locally, Activate America works both internally with YMCA members and externally with community partners to promote healthier eating habits, more physical activity, and improved well-being in spirit, mind and body. Federal funders include the Center for Disease Control, the Department of Education, JC Penney Afterschool, and the YMCA of the USA.
Y-Fit Afterschool Program
Childhood obesity is ranked as the #1 health concern for children in the U.S. today and has reached epidemic proportions. The Healthy Behaviors Initiative addresses the serious health problems facing students in low-income communities throughout Michigan and most at risk of obesity. Through its work, Y-Fit is demonstrating the important role that afterschool programs can play in improving the lives and health of these children and families by addressing the childhood obesity epidemic in the United States. Under the Initiative, afterschool programs are being transformed into environments that support and encourage healthy behaviors.
Capital Campaign Support
The Y has played a profoundly positive role in our community for generations. Countless numbers of families have been helped, lives reconstructed, crimes averted and educational degrees completed. Consumers Energy has supported the Y’s Capital Campaign to improve the facilities that can open doors for thousands of Lansing area residents.
